How to Switch Jobs During a Shift
Switch jobs when the work you are doing changes but your overall shift continues. ShiftFlow closes the current job entry and starts the new one without clocking you out.
Step 1: Tap Switch Job
From the active shift screen, tap Switch Job.
Step 2: Select the next Job Code
In Job Codes, select the job you are starting. If your account uses Cost Codes, tap Next.
Job Codes
The current job appears separately from the Job Code List. To stop tracking a job without starting another one, choose End Job on the current job. Your shift remains active and continues without a job code.
If the list is empty, a Manager needs to create or restore an active Job Code. Managers can use Manage from the dialog; team members should contact a Manager.
Step 3: Select a Cost Code when prompted
If Cost Codes are enabled, select the cost category for the new job, then tap Start. You cannot continue until a Cost Code is selected.
Cost Codes
Cost Codes add a second level of reporting to the selected Job Code. They do not replace the Job Code.
Step 4: Confirm the new job
The active shift screen shows the new Job Code and Cost Code. The timeline records the old job ending and the new job starting at the switch time.
The shift timer keeps running throughout the switch. Use Clock Out only when the entire shift is finished.
Special cases
- Incomplete checklist: ShiftFlow may ask you to complete a checklist tied to the current Job Code before ending or changing it.
- Same Job Code, different Cost Code: Select the current Job Code, tap Next, and choose the new Cost Code.
- Offline Mode: You can switch among Job Codes and Cost Codes cached on the device. The change uploads with the offline timeline when you exit Offline Mode.
- Kiosk only: Complete the job switch on the shared kiosk when the account restricts time clock actions to kiosk.
If the wrong job was selected
Switch to the correct job immediately so new time is recorded correctly, then tell a Manager which time range needs correction. Do not clock out solely to fix a Job Code.
