How to Use Threads, Reactions, Pinned Messages, and Read Receipts

Message actions help a busy group keep context without starting a new conversation for every update.

Alex Carter

Confirmed. The photo is attached.

Reply to thread

Use a thread when several replies belong to one question. A normal reply in the main channel does not create that grouped context.

Add a reaction

Choose Add Reaction and select the appropriate reaction. Reactions provide a short acknowledgment but should not replace a required written approval.

Pin a message

Choose Pin Message when an important update should be easy to find. Group Info lists pinned messages. Permissions can limit who may pin or unpin.

Mark unread

Choose Mark Unread to place an unread marker for your own follow-up. It does not make the message unread for other members or revoke a read receipt already sent.

View read receipts

For a message you sent in a group, tap or press the read indicator when available to see the members who have read it.

Read receipts indicate that the app recorded the message as read; they do not prove that someone completed the requested work.
