What decides your rank on the map

Google ranks the map on three factors. Almost every ranking problem comes down to one of them.

Relevance

How well your profile matches what the customer typed. Your primary category and services drive this.

Distance

How close your verified business location is to the person searching. Service-area settings tell customers where you work, but they do not guarantee broader rankings.

Prominence

How trusted Google considers you. Reviews, consistent listings, and your website feed this.

What we improve to support higher rankings

Google considers relevance, distance, and prominence. Distance is not fully in your control, so we focus on the profile, review, listing, and website signals you can improve.

Rank tracking

See where you rank across your service area

We run a geo-grid across your service area, so you can see the zip codes where you rank and the ones where you fall out of the results. This shows us where to target the work and tracks your movement over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to rank higher?

There is no fixed timeline because rankings also depend on distance, competition, and Google’s systems. Profile corrections may be reflected sooner than improvements that rely on reviews, listings, and website signals. Your Maps snapshot identifies the changes most likely to improve the signals you can control.

Why do competitors rank above me with fewer reviews?

Reviews contribute to prominence, but Google also considers relevance and distance. A competitor with fewer reviews may still be closer to the searcher or more relevant to the query. Your Maps snapshot shows which controllable signals appear to offer the clearest opportunity.

How do you measure my ranking?

We run a geo-grid across your service area. It records your position for your trade at points throughout the area, so you can see where you reach the top three and where you fall out of view. Ranking is measured from each location, not only from where you search.

Do you provide a report, or handle the work?

Both. Every visibility snapshot includes a prioritized plan of what to change and why it affects your ranking. You can carry it out yourself with our guidance, or we can complete the work for you.

Do I need a website to rank on Google Maps?

A website is not required, and many home service businesses receive calls from Maps without one. When you have a website, the visibility snapshot reviews it as a ranking factor and advises whether improving it is worthwhile.
