Why Did My Google Reviews Disappear?
Find out why Google reviews disappeared, check delays, policy removal, profile merges, and missing review evidence, then decide when to contact support.
The number of missing reviews tells you where to start.
- One new review is missing: check the reviewer’s contribution and allow for a publishing delay.
- Several named reviews are missing: look for a shared review-request or policy pattern.
- The count changed but you cannot name the reviews: confirm the same profile in Search and Maps.
- Every review disappeared: investigate the Business Profile itself, especially a merge, reinstatement, old location, or duplicate.
Google may delay or remove reviews, and it does not guarantee restoration. The useful goal is to identify whether this is a review-level problem or a profile-level problem before contacting support.

Check the Google Maps profile for missing reviews
Open the business directly in Google Maps and save the URL. Compare its name, address or service area, phone, website, photos, and remaining reviews with the profile the owner manages.
Then open the business while signed out in Google Search. If Search and Maps lead to different listings, or an old-location profile holds the missing reviews, individual review troubleshooting will not solve it.
Create a short record:
- Current Maps URL
- Review count shown in signed-out Search and Maps
- Number of specific reviews you can identify as missing
- Reviewer display names and approximate dates
- Screenshots or notification emails showing the reviews, when available
- Recent merge, reinstatement, ownership, verification, or address changes
“Five named reviews disappeared after these two profiles were merged” gives support a case it can investigate. “Google deleted our best reviews” does not.
If one new Google review never appeared
Google’s missing and delayed reviews guidance says the review check can take a few days. That is the useful waiting window for one new review; it is not a recovery estimate for reviews removed under policy.
Ask the customer one neutral question:
Can you still see the review in your Google Maps contributions?
If the reviewer cannot see it there, the issue is on the reviewer’s side of the path. The business owner cannot edit or restore another person’s contribution.
If the reviewer can see it but the public profile cannot, record the display name, approximate date, and a screenshot the reviewer voluntarily provides. Do not ask the customer to add keywords, change the rating, or post the same review repeatedly.
How to distinguish a review delay from a profile failure
One customer posts a review on Friday and it is not visible on Saturday. The reviewer still sees it in their contributions, the business’s older reviews remain, and the Maps URL has not changed. That pattern points to waiting and documenting, not rebuilding the profile.
Compare that with a business that is reinstated after suspension and returns with zero reviews. That is a profile-level history problem. The owner should preserve the old and current Maps URLs and case references, then contact Google about the profile rather than questioning each customer.
Google also says reviews from merged profiles can take a few days to appear. If every review is still missing after reinstatement, Google directs the business to contact support.
If one older Google review disappeared
Google can remove content that violates its prohibited and restricted content policy. The policy covers fake engagement, incentives, conflicts of interest, harassment, personal information, off-topic content, and other prohibited material.
A real customer and real job do not guarantee that every part of a review complies. The reverse is also true: a missing review does not prove that the customer was fake or that a competitor reported it.
Check the request process for documented policy problems:
- Team members, relatives, or others with a conflict of interest posted reviews.
- Customers were offered money, discounts, gifts, or contest entries.
- Only customers expected to leave a positive rating were sent to Google.
- The request told customers what rating or wording to use.
Correct a noncompliant process. Do not claim that doing so will restore earlier reviews.
If several Google reviews disappeared
List the reviews you can actually identify and look for a shared event:
- Were they submitted during the same request campaign?
- Did they follow a change in review-request method?
- Did the profile change ownership, address, verification state, or URL?
- Was another profile merged or marked as a duplicate?
- Does the count differ between Search and Maps?
Do not infer a secret Google device or IP rule. Google does not publish a simple diagnostic formula for why a particular group of reviews was filtered. Send the pattern you can document, not a theory about the system.
If all Google reviews disappeared
Treat total loss as a Business Profile incident.
Confirm whether Google is showing the same record the owner manages. Gather every known Maps URL and the case reference for a recent suspension, reinstatement, merge, or ownership change. Creating another profile can split the business history again.
Send Business Profile support:
- Current and previous Maps URLs
- Dated before-and-after screenshots
- Previous and current review counts
- Recent support or appeal case references
- The date the profile event occurred
- Names and dates for a few identifiable missing reviews
Keep the submission about the profile history. A spreadsheet of every customer is unnecessary unless Google asks for more detail.
What to do if Google reviews do not return
Review-management software cannot force removed reviews back onto Google. Continue with a compliant process tied to completed jobs:
- Ask eligible customers through the same normal workflow.
- Do not offer incentives or filter by expected rating.
- Send customers to the correct established profile.
- Let customers write in their own words.
- Record when requests are sent so future changes can be investigated.
Do not try to replace a block of missing reviews in one day. A steady process produces more credible customer proof and gives the business a clean record if another review problem occurs.
If the team needs exact compliant wording for that ongoing process, our Google review request templates provide short SMS and email messages for completed jobs without incentives or rating pressure.
If remembering whom to ask and when is the operational problem, ShiftFlow’s Google review management helps set up a repeatable request process so recent reviews keep coming in normally.
Frequently asked questions
How long do delayed Google reviews take to appear?
Google says a review check can take a few days. Use that as a waiting window for a new delayed review, not as a promise that a review removed under policy will return.
Can Google restore missing business reviews?
Google may restore reviews affected by a profile-level problem, but it does not guarantee restoration. Give support the exact Maps URL, identifiable reviewer names and dates, screenshots, and any recent merge, suspension, or ownership case.
Can Google reviews disappear after a profile merge?
Reviews from merged profiles can take a few days to appear. If the reviews remain missing, preserve both Maps URLs and the merge case reference before contacting Business Profile support.
